JENNIE SOMOGYI

           Jennie Somogyi retired as a Prima Ballerina from the New York City Ballet in 2015 after 22 years with the company.
            Ms. Somogyi was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley and began her ballet training with Madame Nina Youskevitch. She received a full scholarship to the nation's premier dance school, The School of American Ballet in New York City, at the age of nine.  At 15, she was offered an apprenticeship with the New York City Ballet. The following year Jennie was given a contract, making her one of the youngest dancers to ever join the company. In 2000, she became a Principal Dancer (the highest level of achievement for a ballerina) until her retirement in 2015.
            Ms. Somogyi has danced over 90 roles with the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center and throughout the world. She has worked with world renowned choreographers, many of who would go on to choreograph ballets for her.  Jennie has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee and several Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts. She has graced the cover of Dance Magazine and has been featured in several books and magazines.
            Ms. Somogyi has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including; the Martin E. Segal Award, the Mae L. Wien Award and the Princess Grace Award. Jennie was also bestowed the Statue Award by the Royal Family, its highest honor. Jennie now resides in the Lehigh Valley with her husband and two children.
